Why is the PRS not compatible with 64 bit versions of Office?

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

You must use a 32-bit version of Microsoft Office to get PRS integration with Microsoft Outlook. The PRS is fully compatible with all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Office including Office 2013.

NOTE: The PRS is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Microsoft recommends that you install 32-bit Office in preference to 64-bit Office for most situations. This ensures maximum compatibility with Outlook Addins and integrated applications:

To quote Microsoft: "Do you need to work with file sizes greater than 2 GB? If so, then you would benefit from 64-bit Office being able to utilize more memory. If not, we’re recommending 32-bit Office 2010 as the default installation on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows mainly due to compatibility with existing 32-bit controls, add-ins, and VBA (update: most VBA code will work without modification on 64- bit Office, but see this paper more details)."

There is absolutely no performance advantage using 64-bit instead of 32-bit office (the numbers 64 and 32 refer to the CPU instruction length and have nothing to do with performance).
